NewsMay 12, 2012: AMD FX-400 quad-core series currently includes two CPUs: FX-4100
and FX-4170. At least two other models from the same series, FX-4130 and
FX-4150, were discovered in leaked AMD roadmaps, although they are not
launched yet. It is possible that another quad-core FX processor may be
released before the 4130 and 4150. AMD FX-4200 was spotted in Gigabyte
and MSI CPU support lists in March and April, and recently appeared
in Bottom Line Telecommunications online store.
Apr 27, 2012: A few days after announcement of Intel's Ivy Bridge
micro-architecture, many news sites reported
that some
European
retailers slashed prices of FX-8150 processors by 15% - 20%, and
suggested that AMD may have dropped the prices of other processors as
well. Today AMD published new pricelist, confirming price drop for the
FX-8150 model. The company also cut prices of six- and quad-core
FX-Series chips, and for all microprocessors from A-Series.
Mar 26, 2012: Two AMD FX unlocked microprocessors with unusual "WOF" prefix are now
available for pre-order in US online stores. Boxed FX-8120 and FX-8150
SKUs with part numbers FD8120FRGUWOX and FD8150FRGUWOX have a unique
feature for production processors: they come with liquid cooling,
which allows CPUs to reach higher overclock frequencies and/or achieve
better system stability when overclocked. The liquid cooling is
not cheap though, and pre-order prices for two FX models are $100 -
$150 more expensive than air-cooled versions of the same chips. We
don't know release dates of WOF models, although there is one fact
that tells us that the release is not too far off. In the last two
days AMD published
AMD
Liquid Cooling document with details on liquid cooler
for FX-Series processors.
Feb 01, 2012: Last Sunday Intel listed three new Core i5 desktop microprocessors
in company's official pricelist. Another desktop Core i7 model will be
launched in two weeks. It seems that AMD also prepares to refresh
their FX line of desktop processors, targeted at computer enthusiasts.
We recently spotted available for pre-order unreleased FX-4170 and FX-6200 CPUs. Also, AMD is going to offer in US a variation of FX-8150
model with liquid cooling.
Oct 12, 2011: Today AMD launched Bulldozer micro-architecture, and first four FX
desktop microprocessors. Bulldozer microarchitecture takes radically
different approach than previous generation of K10 chips, and, instead
of separate cores, integrates from 2 to 4 modules. Each module
contains two CPU cores, that share some circuitry, such as instruction
level 1 cache, Floating-Point Unit and level 2 cache.
Oct 11, 2011: Less than two days left before the official launch of AMD FX-Series
CPUs. While specifications and prices of new processors are well
known, the same cannot be said about its performance. The FX-Series is
based on Bulldozer micro-architecture, which packs from 2 to 4 modules
on a single die. Each module incorporates two cores, that share certain
resources, such as fetch and decode circuits, floating-point unit and
L2 cache. Resource sharing allows Bulldozer chips to lower power
consumption and reduce die size, but it also reduces core performance.
Sep 22, 2011: This quarter AMD is going to launch server-class "Interlagos" and
consumer-class "Zambezi" processors, based on new Bulldozer
micro-architecture. In the past two weeks three "Zambezi" FX-Series
CPUs surfaced for pre-order at a few online US stores, suggesting
imminent release of these models. Yesterday Donanimhaber reported that
AMD FX-Series family will launch on October 12.
Sep 15, 2011: Earlier this week, in a press release, titled "AMD Showcases
World’s Fastest CPU", AMD announced
new overclocking world record. Not yet released FX-8150 processor
with 6 disabled cores was overclocked to staggering 8.429 GHz by a
team of overclocking specialists working together with AMD engineers.
It's definitely an impressive result, and a great marketing stunt.
Sep 11, 2011: Earlier this week AMD announced shipping of server class
microprocessors, based on upcoming "Bulldozer" core. The
announcement indicated that the processors will be available next
quarter. The server chips were, apparently, delayed as they were
expected to launch a quarter earlier. According
to Xbit laboratories, high-performance FX-Series chips
for consumer market were also delayed, and they will be shipped
in the fourth quarter.
Sep 02, 2011: As you may already know, later this quarter AMD is going to
launch Bulldozer micro-architecture, that at first will be
used in server Opteron 6200 CPUs, and desktop FX-Series
microprocessors. Specifications of desktop FX-Series were known for
more than a month, and they recently were confirmed by Gigabyte. As was
discovered by VR-Zone, the latest CPU support
list update for several Gigabyte socket AM3+ motherboards includes the
details on all AMD FX-Series SKUs.

AMD FX8170 so I can close my computer case! Honestly, what junk, just release it now a steping issue will not solve its failzorness. On anouther thought, maybe I should just keep the 1100T because core-for-core its better... lol u noob cakes make me mad.. Without AMD, Intel prices would be double.2012-02-05 08:04:15 Posted by: notnonoob Bdozer is on the right trck, they just need to tighten a few loose screws. I HAVE THE FX-81502012-04-13 00:20:08 Posted by: CONAN OF ROTTINGHAM I UPGRADED FROM A 960T Quad Core...I see the difference and love this CPU... Some say its only 4 core with Advanced Hyperthreading. Whatever it is I love it. Just think the price is high from what I paid. They should match the i5 2500K price... because that CPU beats it in most games and is cheaper. I still like AMD and they are where the FUTURE of CPU's are.
