News

Jan 26, 2012: Typically, when you buy electronic parts and equipment they are only guaranteed to work according to published specs. If you overclock a part of your computer (usually the CPU, memory and/or graphics card) and it burns out you are not covered by the standard warranty. Most companies offer a limited warranty, which doesn't cover damage done by overclocking (classed as misuse), although some companies offer more flexible replacement terms as long as a non-working part cannot be seen to have been modified. Intel are now offering an added level of warranty protection, at a price, for those who wish to overclock their recent, high-end unlocked desktop SKUs.

Nov 14, 2011: Today marks the launch of Intel's much anticipated Sandy Bridge-E processors for the desktop platform, the Core i7-3930K and Core i7-3960X. Core i7-3930K is priced at $583, while the Core i7-3960X is priced at $999 in 1000+ tray quantities. The third processor in the line-up, Core i7-2820, has been delayed. The CPUs are already available in many stores. For example, MWave sells Core i7-3930K CPU for $599.99, and the Core i7-3960X costs $1079.99. Other online stores, like NewEgg and TigerDirect, have comparable prices.

Nov 03, 2011: It was widely reported before that this quarter Intel will launch three processors for new enthusiast platform, based on socket 2011. Core i7-3930K and i7-3960X microprocessors with unlocked clock multiplier will be released this month (November), priced at $583 and $999 respectively. It was rumored that the third processor, Core i7-3820 with locked multiplier, was delayed.

Aug 15, 2011: In the forth quarter of this year Intel plans to introduce three high-performance models, based on new Sandy Bridge-E core. One of these chips, Core i7-3960X Extreme, is going to supersede Core i7-990X, while two others, unlocked Core i7-3930K and locked Core i7-3820, are positioned as a replacement for top Core i7 processors for sockets 1156 and 1366. Specifications of these CPUs were disclosed one month ago.

Jul 19, 2011: Current generation of extreme consumer desktop platform, represented by Westmere Core i7-900X series microprocessors, is going to be replaced with three new Sandy Bridge models, supposedly by the end of this year. The new processors will be built on Sandy Bridge-E core, and will utilize new socket LGA2011. Basic specifications for these CPUs were known since mid of April. Yesterday, DonanimHaber published new details on forthcoming extreme processors, including turbo boost frequencies and processor numbers.

Apr 21, 2011: Yesterday, XFastest published a roadmap of Sandy Bridge-E microprocessors, covering the rest of this year and the first half 2012. "Sandy Bridge-E" is a variation of Sandy Bridge core, used in the next generation of Core i7/i7 Extreme processors. According to the roadmap, there will be three new SKUs released in the 4th quarter 2011.
